Laurelyn Dossett and Rhiannon Giddens

Congratulations to the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Rhiannon Giddens, and Laurelyn Dossett

The Carolina Chocolate Drops’ title track and song “Leaving Eden” has a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album!

The song was written by The Gathering band’s singer and songwriter Laurelyn Dossett. This weekend, Dossett and Giddens will perform together again for the remaining shows in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Dossett and Giddens first worked together in 2006 when Dossett cast the Greensboro-based fiddler and singer in the Triad Stage holiday play, “Beautiful Star.” Dossett wrote and found Old Time and Bluegrass songs for the holiday play written by Preston Lane.

The pair have remained close friends ever since.

“I could not be happier that my old song has a new life,” Dossett said about Rhiannon’s version of her song, “Leaving Eden,” and the album’s Grammy nomination. “They do such a beautiful version.”

The Gathering also reunites power-Bluegrass duo Mike Compton and Joe Newberry. Up-right bass player Jason Sypher rounds out the quintet for this special holiday project.
